As the baby boomers retire, a huge part of the population starts taking money out of Social Security, instead of putting it in. Also, retired people are living longer and needing more, and more expensive, medical care.

The problems this creates are not just for retirees. As Baby Boomers pull money out of the stock market for retirement, there are fewer Gen X-ers and Gen Y-ers putting money into it. So there will be less money going into the whole stock market. Less money in the market means lower stock values. So, Gen-X and Gen-Y folks with retirement plans are at great risk, too.
